Colas Limited’s Warrington site is the UK’s primary manufacturing facility for the supply of bitumen emulsions and related road surfacing products.
Mollington Contracts was invited to tender for the replacement of a decommissioned tank base, having successfully completed prior works for Colas.
The project involved removing the original concrete base and constructing a newly designed foundation for a replacement storage tank, located behind existing storage tanks. Working within an active petrochemical facility required a rigorous approach to safety, logistics, and environmental protection.
Pre order meetings were carried out to establish best practice, methodology of construction, procurement of materials and whole of life costs. Mollington Contracts carried out its pre-planning routine to detail its proposals for the works to be carried out:
- Methodology for the deconstruction/construction of the tank base.
- Collaboration with Colas, tank manufacturer and installation team.
- Procurement planning and lead time management
- Preparation of Risk assessments and Method statements.
- On site material storage to mitigate COSHH and environmental risk.
- Phased demolition and construction sequencing.
- Programme development with critical path analysis.
- Protection measures for adjacent operational areas.
